Easy wound sfx makeup tutorial

By  |

This time we’re showing you how to create an easy wound, the same one we used at the SciFi Con. It’s a very easy and straightforward process and perfect if you want to create lots of wound for your Halloween party, the zombie walk or just sell as hand made prosthetics. And as we say in the tutorial, be sure to create many wound so you don’t waste the latex paste.

I'd wrap it with toilet paper and add a little red food coloring and tell my gym teacher I can't do gym because of my arm then take the toilet paper off... Best school prank.

Just wanted to say that if you are working on an area where theres even a little bit of hair, either shave it the day before/10ish hours before or cover the hair in Vaseline! Really, even baby hairs get caught in latex and it's really really freaking painful, using isopropyl myristate will also help with taking it off and be much kinder on your skin than just ripping it off!

+Molly Andris I was thinking light vasoline. I would prefer not to shave if at all possible lol. But I was more referring to, how would I make it (the wound) match my hairy arms?
    • Molly Andris

I'd suggest just shaving the area of your arm that you're going to apply the latex too. If you put the latex on the hair, it will hurt like hell when you take it off

A quick question on the method of making latex paste: I attempted to do this last week to make a zombie brow prosthetic, but when I returned to check on it in the morning, it had begun to grow mold. How do I combat that? Is my latex cheap? D:

Can you guys tsp a tutorial on how to properly remove liquid latex?😁
    • It's Emily

Reading this again and I realise that is not the correct way. You can remove latex with vaseline if you are on a budget and I heard that Isopropyl Myristate is an efficient and good method to remove latex.
    • It's Emily

Usually you just pull it. If you want to out liquid latex on an area with hair such as the eyebrows, just cover them with vaseline and it protects the hair a bit.

    • Side Ponytail .Girl

Ella Hayes you could use sfx gelatin (cheap and easy to obtain yet a little different) or silicone (it'd be more pricy though) and stick everything with skin adhesives like spirit gum Edit: when purchasing skin adhesives make sure you also get removers for them ;)

I tried many times but it seems almost imposible to get a smooth latex paste.. I tried extra fine flour and sifting it before mixing, and adding it in just small amounts at a time. But whatever I do it keeps getting clumpy, it never gets to a smooth paste as in the video... Is there some trick? I wasted som much latex, lol, I wish I could use this method!!

what ever hair you put it on will be ripped off... it'll fell like waxing... i suggest you shave the hair first if that is a possibility... or you can apply the prostecic with either spirit gum or prosate both have a remover that should not rip off your hair

When I use latex paste t becomes bumpy even when mixing and it's like little clumps of latex. it's almost impossible to smooth. do you have a tips on the consistency? I don't know if I'm using to much latex I'd to much flour. It would mean a lot to me if you guys reply I'm a big fan.
    • LOLitsElizabeth

Flour does have bumps in it but if you put it through a strainer before adding it to the latex then the bumps will come out and stay in the strainer. You can just throw away the little bumps of flour that comes out into the strainer. Hope that helps!!! :)

When I used this method to make prosthetics, found that it was a lot easier to shape the wounds and create even edges when I added more latex to the mixture, so it wasn't as clumpy and hard.
